Framing Athens

Design of a High-End Penthouse Apartment

Project Details

Commissioned to design a high-end penthouse apartment, increasing the value of the existing property.

Located in one of the most iconic streets under the Acropolis, this 92m² apartment is designed in a minimal/contemporary style with all the comforts of a penthouse suite. Boasting uninterrupted views of the Acropolis Museum and the Parthenon, the open-plan living areas are orientated to take full advantage of this and create a seamless movement throughout the space. Wooden screens of the highest craftsmanship and glass partitions between the living area and master bedroom allow for an interesting interplay of transparency, framing views of the stunning exterior, while keeping a sense of privacy in one’s personal quarters.

Layers of premium materials and high-contrast surfaces create a sophisticated luxury in this metropolitan sanctuary. The dark grey chevron-patterned parquet lays the foundation for high-gloss marble surfaces, namely Statuario White, Black Marquina and Calacatta Gold, while metal details in matt black, brushed gold and high-gloss chrome interact and create depth in the interiors. Timeless furniture from some of the most reclaimed designers and factories decorate the apartment, giving an appropriate softness to the space, with their lush fabrics and detailed leatherwork.

Lastly, subtle details inspired from the striking views of the Acropolis Museum and the Parthenon form a symbolic, non-literal connection. The marble, monolithic kitchen island with its chamfered edges along with the curved stone base of the dining table, refer to the characteristic rock formations in the Acropolis and the soft curves in the details in the architecture of the monument. The grey-toned color pallet, slated screens and angled views, create a dialogue with the Museum which sits right across this unique property.
